- Scope & content
- Series consists of 50 digital photographs taken by William Conway of Progress Photography that document the construction work for the Dufferin Jog Elimination Project in 2009-2010. This $25 million City of Toronto project aimed to remove an old Dufferin Street detour along Peel and Gladstone avenues that circumvented the railway corridor crossing Dufferin Street at Queen Street West. Engineers at Delcan Corporation designed a new Dufferin Street/CN/Go Transit Underpass at Queen Street that would connect the north and south portions of Dufferin Street underneath the rail line. The Dufferin Construction Company was contracted to carry out the construction, with work subcontracted to the following: Core Excavation; HC Matcon (shoring/caissons); Harris Rebar; Dufferin Construction/Holcim Canada (formwork/concrete); Munro (precast); Central Welding/Ganawa Bridge Services (structural steel); AGI Traffic Technology Inc. (electrical); Bridge Tite (waterproofing); and Gazzola Paving.Series is arranged chronologically into nine sets of files representing each of Conway's photography shoots. Photographs show the Dufferin and Queen Street West intersection and railway corridor prior to construction on February 4, 2009, progress of the construction work at different stages in 2009 and 2010, and the official opening of the new Dufferin Street CN/GO Transit Underpass at Queen Street on November 18, 2010 with Mayor David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, and TTC Chair Adam Giambrone at the ceremony.
