- Scope & content
- Series consists of plans created and acquired by the Department of Buildings and its predecessor, the City Architect's Department. These plans document City-owned buildings. The drawings may relate to new buildings, or to proposed alterations or additions to existing buildings.Series includes drawings of the Registry Office on Albert Street, many of which indicate alterations to be made to the structure. As well, there are a significant number of Toronto church plans, which were completed just after the 1913 Safety of Buildings by-law (no. 6401) was passed. The church plans indicate layout and capacity, and sometimes highlight building materials. There are also numerous plans related to the construction of and alterations to firehalls. Also included here are plans for bath houses, the Bain Co-op Apartment Buildings, Toronto East General Hospital, the Ford Hotel, and Sunnybrook Farm.Series also includes the building plans by E.J. Lennox for City Hall, which were signed by the participating contractors. Series also includes plans of proposed buildings to be constructed in the area where Nathan Phillips Square and the new City Hall are located.
