- Scope & content
- Series consists of photographs taken for the Toronto Transit Commission between 1957 and 1970. Included are "progress" shots of subway construction taken on July 26, 1961; subway stations along the University line in February 1963; the opening of the Bloor Subway line on February 25, 1966; Yonge Street from Eglinton Avenue northward to Sheppard Avenue in March 1968; and the opening of the Bloor-Danforth Extension on May 10, 1968. Series also consists of photographs showing streetcar and bus operations; special events (such as the Canadian National Exhibition, the Grey Cup football game, and Christmas at Casa Loma); TTC personnel; and VIPs, such as Mayor Nathan Phillips and Metro Chairman Frederick Gardiner at TTC festivities on November 16, 1959. Trussler's photographs were used in TTC publicity products, such as the February 1960 brochure, "Every Day is a Busy Day-for TTC Inspectors," which included eight Trussler photographs (B 66-1 to 31). Trussler's photographs also illustrate the impact of the subway on surrounding communities and development of the city: e.g., a September 22, 1958 series labelled "photos of apartment growth" at 1900 Yonge Street, which Trussler produced for the TTC Public Relations department; and numerous aerial views shot at various times, of various areas around Toronto.
