Scope & content
Series consists of 42 photographs taken in 1956 by commercial photographer Bruce M. Young that document the St. James Town neighbourhood, an area rezoned by the City of Toronto to build a cluster of high-density residential apartment towers bounded by Jarvis Street to the west, Bloor Street East to the north, Parliament Street to the east, and Wellesley Street East to the south. Photographs show various 19th-century buildings on neighbourhood streets prior to redevelopment. Included are sections of Bleecker Street, Darling Avenue, Howard Street, Ontario Street, Parliament Street, Rose Avenue, St. James Avenue, and Wellesley Street East.
