Scope & content
Fonds consists of a marriage contract between Sidney Halpern and Freda Fagin in November 1941, in Eganville, Ontario (see 1-995) and birth certificate and photocopies of letters between the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources and Sidney Halpern’s daughter, Mrs. Shirley Abtan. 1. According to family lore Herman arrived as part of the Baron de Hirsch immigration plan but Dr. Gary Viner could not find his name in the National Archives listings. Halpern apparently was changed from Hirschhorn. 3. Family lore also states that Herman played French horn, fought in the Russian army and left his homeland hurriedly because he killed someone in a duel.
