- Scope & content
- The sous-fonds consists of records relating to the life of Shirley Petten, primarily to her personal activities. The records primarily document the illness and death of Petten’s partner, Beverley Holmwood, and Petten’s subsequent legal battles with the Workers’ Compensation Board and the Greater Victoria Hospital Society to gain a survivor’s pension. This human rights victory is well documented in this print collection and is an important milestone in the fight for the Canadian government to acknowledge benefits for those in same-sex relationships.
