- Scope & content
- Black ink on white paper. Outdoor street scene of a funeral procession. A man is pulling a cart behind him while other people follow him. There is a box loaded onto the cart. A young man walks beside the box, holding his arm out to it. Elderly women stand on both sides of the road, in positions of distress. There are buildings in background, and the ghetto wall runs along left side of the road. Narrative: All 16 of the prints in this series depict life of Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust. Printmaker, book illustrator and painter, Stefan Mrozewski was born in Czéstochowa, Poland. Mrozewski's prints are in permament collections of several public art collections in Europe and North America. The artist was married to Irena Blizinska. An ardent patriot, he was a volunteer in the Polish Army in the war against the Soviet Union in 1920, as well as during the Second World War when he served in Armia Krajowa, the clandestine Polish Home Army.
