EL ALשלוםAND A 100HEBREWWORDSFIRST WORDSWORDS OF ACTIONWelcome aboard El Al Israel Airlines. This little booklet is designed to introduce you to the Hebrew language. We have selected one hundred and one Hebrew words to enable you to say a few words in the language in which the Bible was written and the prophets spoke, and in which the airport official greets you.Ivrit, which means "Hebrew", is a very ancient tongue now revived in modern Israel. It is the mother tongue of many Israelis whose mothers knew it not. Hebrew is written from right to left and its alphabet consists of 22 letters.El Al, which flies people of many languages to and from many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and America, feels that "in-flight" time is a good a time as any to brush up your Hebrew. In addition to helping you learn 101 Hebrew words, the El Al captain and crew will do everything to make your flight one of the most pleasant experiences of your trip. We all wish you an enjoyable flight and Bon Voyage and, may we add – "Le'hitraot!" – "Be Seeing you".There are twenty-two letters in the Hebrew alphabet. The five letters marked with an asterisk are the same as the characters preceding them, and are used when appearing at the end of a word.Vous pouvez demander à l'hébreu cette plaquette imprimée en français."Shalom!" Now you already know one word in Hebrew. With "Shalom" you were greeted when you came aboard. It is the greeting used both when you meet a friend and bid him farewell.El Al in Hebrew means "Upward". Upward and onward to your destination we wish you a pleasant flight with El Al Israel Airlines.UP IN THE AIRWelcome Ba-ruch-Ha-bahPilot Tay-yassGREETINGS AND COURTESIESPeace Sha-lomGood Morning Bob-ker TovGood Evening Eb-rev TovHow are you Mah Shlom-chaPlease B'vah-kah-shahThank you Toh-dahPardon Slee-chahYes KenGood TovBad RahThis ZehWho MeeWhat MahWhy Lah-mahTo travelTo drinkTo seeTo hearTo writeTo giveTo askMAN AND HIS SURROUNDINGSMan IshWoman IshaBoy Yeh-ledHouse Bah-yeetStreet Reh-hovTown EerVillage K'farCollective settlement KibbutzCountry Eh-retzSea YamSun Sheh-meshMountain HarValley Eh-mekIT'S ABOUT TIMETime Zeh-manMinute Reh-gahHour Sha-ahDay YomNight Lai-lahWeek Shah-voo-ahMonth Cho-deshYear Shah-nahToday Ha-yomYesterday Eh-molTomorrow Mah-charYOU AND THINGS YOU WANTTourist Tah-yarGuest OrechNew Immigrant Oleh Cha-dashHotel Mah-lonRoom Che-derDining Room Cha-dar Ha-ochelWaiter Mel-tzarMeal Aru-chaRestaurant Miss-ah-dahLET'S GO (AND SHOP)Taxi Mon-neetCar Meh-cho-neetDriver Neh-hagTrain Rah-keh-vetTicket Kar-teessRoad K'vishMoney Kes-sefShop Cha-nootGift Mah-tah-nahClothes Leh-vushPost Office Doh-arPLACESParliament Knes-setCinema Kol-no-ahTheatre Te-hat-ronMuseum Mu-zay-onSynagogue Beit Knes-setChurch Knes-si-yahMosque Mes-geedOn these pages are one hundred new Hebrew words.
